The founder of the Kammertheater, Wolfgang Reinsch, began modestly in 1956 in a basement room that could only accommodate around 70 spectators. But over the course of more than 40 years, the private theater has expanded considerably, moved several times and has now found its home on Rondellplatz, playing in a prestigious house with a capacity of 198 seats. The building was made available to the theater by the city of Karlsruhe.
With the different venues, the face of the theater also changed from its original stage with a wide range of plays to a pure boulevard theater. This change was systematically implemented - still under the aegis of Wolfgang Reinsch - in order to close a gap in Karlsruhe's theater offerings. Heidi Vogel-Reinsch, successor to her late husband Wolfgang Reinsch, manages
Baden's popular boulevard stage in the spirit of its founder.
The Boulevard-Bühne's audience is made up of people from all walks of life, professions and age groups; it is neither elitist nor snobbish, but quite demanding because it wants to be entertained in a brilliantly amusing way. The Kammertheater Karlsruhe does its utmost to meet this demand by performing good and well-staged plays.
