The Kulki is the place to be if you want to really relax or work out. It is located on the western edge of Leipzig and is super easy to reach by bike - only about 45 minutes from the center of Leipzig! So it's perfect for a spontaneous trip.

Why is Lake Kulkwitz so special?

The Kulki is a real paradise, especially for divers. With super clear water and visibility of up to 10 meters underwater, there are some really cool things to discover, such as sunken forests and even a plane wreck. But even if diving isn't your thing, there are plenty of other activities. Water skiing, wakeboarding, stand-up paddling, sailing, surfing - you name it, Kulki has it.

What can you do at Kulki?

1. Water sports: The lake is a stronghold for all water sports freaks. Wakeboarding or waterskiing on the lift, chilling out in a canoe or kayak - boredom? Not a chance!
2. Diving: With its clear water and cool underwater attractions, the lake is a diving hotspot.
3. Swimming: You can jump into the water at several beaches and enjoy the summer. There's even a dog beach!
4. Cycling and hiking: There's a circular trail around the lake that's about 8 kilometers long - perfect for a relaxing bike or hiking tour.
5. Playgrounds: If you're out and about with kids, there are also a few playgrounds, such as the wooden playground on the western shore or the octopus playground.

What should you look out for?

The Kulki is super nice, but there are a few things you should keep an eye on. Some green areas and signage could be better maintained, and there are always complaints about garbage on the beaches. So, if you go, pack up your garbage and leave the spot cleaner than you found it.

Fun facts & tips

• The lake was created from a former open-cast mine and has been a popular recreational area since the 1970s.
• It's best to start your tour in Leipzig-Grünau, from there it's a super relaxed drive.
• There's also a campsite right by the lake if you want to stay overnight. Alternatively, there are plenty of hotels and guesthouses in Markranstädt and Leipzig
