The KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen in Hanover is an annual international and interdisciplinary festival in which music plays a central role. For the 16th edition of the festival, director Ingo Metzmacher and the dramaturgy team have once again put together a diverse program that transcends genre boundaries and invites the audience to enjoy unique artistic experiences. From 22.05. to 08.06.2025, the KunstFestSpiele will present music and circus theater, performances, concerts, dance and theater performances as well as installations by international artists.

Some of the works on show will be specially commissioned and developed for the KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen venues.

The festival's central venues - the Gallery and Orangery, the Great Garden and the Arne Jacobsen Foyer - are located in the magnificent setting of the Herrenhausen Gardens. The DHC Hall in the immediate vicinity of the Herrenhausen Gardens has now established itself as a new venue. In the festival center of the KunstFestSpiele in the Herrenhausen Gardens, the artists, staff and audience meet in a relaxed atmosphere.

The 16th KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen will open on Thu 22.05. with the installation 11,000 Strings by Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas. Until Sun 08.06., the KunstFestSpiele will present a total of 23 artistic productions with around 900 invited artists and choral singers on 18 festival days. A highlight will be the grand finale on Sun, June 8: Ingo Metzmacher will bring together the musical forces of Hanover for one last time at the end of his 10-year directorship for an extraordinary concert in the domed hall of the HCC: Under the title The Unanswered Question, Ingo Metzmacher, together with the NDR Radiophilharmonie, the university orchestra of the HMTMH and nine Hanoverian choirs, will bring a wide range of orchestral pieces, songs and choral works by Ives to the stage. The world-famous American baritone Thomas Hampson will be a special guest at the anniversary concert in Hanover.
