Founded in 1969, the Neue Berliner Kunstverein with its two collections Artothek and Video-Forum and its interdisciplinary residency program is an institution rich in tradition. Many exhibition projects were created in cooperation with partners such as Neue Nationalgalerie, Akademie der Künste, Martin-Gropius-Bau or Staatliche Kunsthalle. Many exhibitions wrote art history, such as the actions of the avant-garde [ADA 1 (1972), ADA 2 (1974)] and the city exhibitions [City I: Industrialization (1978), City II: Alienation (1979), City and Utopia (1982)]. The thematic exhibitions Zeitgeist (1982) and Skulpturenboulevard (1987) organized by the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein were international successes that brought Berlin, which was culturally isolated at the time, into the focus of world attention. The world careers of the "Neue Wilden" began here. Two collections - Artothek and Video-Forum - were built up for the public and enjoy great, steadily growing interest. The Artothek, with its more than 4,000 works of the 20th and 21st centuries, is the largest in Germany and records 11,000 loans annually. The Video-Forum owns over 1,500 works of international video art and is the oldest institution of its kind in Germany. The Neue Berliner Kunstverein is a place of debate and mediation of contemporary visual art in the mirror of global developments.
