Oper Halle

Since 2021/22, a new team led by London director Walter Sutcliffe has been at the helm of Oper Halle. "Opernwelt" summed up his philosophy in one of its reviews: "One of the most coherent, clever Handel productions of recent times, which should also appeal to young people."

Aesthetic opulence, the joy of performing, ensemble care and comprehensible content that is relevant here and now are our trademarks. We only show plays that are worth seeing. A permanent staff of international stage and costume designers, who work at the world's major theaters and festivals, ensure the pleasure of the show. They regularly and happily come to Halle and are part of our artistic "family": the Polish Dorota Karolczak, the Swiss Kaspar Glarner, the British Gideon Davey and Jon Bausor.

About us

We also rely on consistency in our directors: Walter Sutcliffe, in-house director Louisa Proske, Katharina Kastening, Keith Warner and Patric Seibert work continuously with our twelve-member ensemble, choir, extra choir, children's and youth choir and the Halle Opera's extras. At the heart of their productions are the singing actors, exciting stories and intelligent ideas.

In 2022, Fabrice Bollon, who has worked in Freiburg i.B. since 2009, will become the new General Music Director and Michal Sedláček, who has been with Ballett Rossa since 1999, the new Ballet Director. The 18-member company is renamed Ballett Halle, produces two new productions per season and invites international choreographers such as Angelin Preljocaj and Václav Kuneš.
