When you hear our name, many people think that it is a building where you can park your car. The parking garage got its name from the fact that it is located right next to the Meiderich city park.
The organization Jugendkultur DU-Nord e.V. is a non-profit association that supports the interests of young people in accordance with the Child and Youth Welfare Act. Both youth culture and youth leisure work play a major role here.
The Parkhaus team creates space and opportunities to meet the needs of children for informal encounters and meaningful, self-chosen leisure activities, so that they don't just hang around in front of the computer or "on the street" in their free time. Among other things, our supervisors attach great importance to the training of social skills and support in practical life issues. They also support the children in problem situations.
We also attach great importance to promoting young talent in the field of music. Concerts with young bands take place regularly. We enable many school and young bands to demonstrate their skills and perform in front of an audience. We involve the bands directly in the organization of their concert. They have to get involved and get involved in order to get to know the other side of the music business. We also offer musical highlights to interested audiences from Duisburg and the surrounding area. Since the association was founded, well-known artists such as Reamonn, Guano Apes, Liquido, Stoppok, Zeltinger, The BossHoss, Luxuslärm, Deichkind, Sabaton, Angelo Kelly, John Watts, Paul Di'anno and Gregor Meyle have performed at the Parkhaus.
From 1999 until 2014, the Parkhaus hosted the Duisburg Open Air Festival, formerly known as Rock im Park since 1983, on behalf of the city of Duisburg, which was later renamed the Park-Kult-Tour Festival. Nationally and internationally successful bands were signed up. Fury in the Slaughterhouse, Sir Bob Geldof, Ray Wilson, Gary Moore, The BossHoss, 2Raumwohnung and Fiddler's Green have all been there.
