The Romantikerhaus Jena is a museum in the former home of the philosopher Johann Gottlieb Fichte dedicated to the development and significance of early Romanticism in Jena.

Around 1800, the tranquil but liberal and academically active university town on the River Saale became an intellectual hotspot within the German-speaking countries. It was here that the early Romantics blew the pollen of their rebellious thinking into the world. It fell on fertile ground and grew into the forest of Romanticism, which had a lasting impact on European cultural history. Its roots reach deep into the past, but its leaves still touch our thoughts and actions today.

The permanent exhibition traces the development of early Romanticism in Jena and provides insights into Romantic poetry and thought using a variety of materials and historical objects.

Regular temporary exhibitions explore individual themes in greater depth, celebrate anniversaries or examine the after-effects of Romanticism in contemporary culture.
