The exhibition space was conceived in 1962 together with the new building for the adult education center by the municipal building department and designed by the architect Dr. Müller-Hoeppe. On the north-east side of the building is a sculpture by Erich Hauser facing the Aegidienkirche. The 340 square meter, almost square exhibition space with its four meter high white walls without any disturbing windows has been able to prove its versatility in the years of its existence.

Eight current exhibitions are shown each year. The selection is made by a municipal committee following receipt of applications with an exhibition concept from the artists or artist groups.
