Theater der Keller

The oldest private theater in Cologne's Südstadt had to make way for the plans of an investor in summer 2019. Since September 2019, we have been playing in the "Werkshalle" in Cologne Deutz at Deutzer Hafen. TanzFaktur, whose foyer and bar we share, has granted us asylum.

The program includes young contemporary drama: stories from the incubator of our society, political rebellion, poetic reflection, seriousness and active shaping of the future. A special feature of the Theater der Keller is the promotion of young talent and close cooperation with the "Schauspielschule der Keller". Aspiring actors are given the opportunity to participate in professional productions for the first time. Nowhere is there so much young lust for life on stage.
Theater der Keller has been awarded the Kurt Hackenberg Prize (prize for political theater). In 2017, it was nominated four times for the Cologne Theater Prize and won it with the production "Bilqiss." In 2018 it won the Heidelberg Theater Prize with "Clockwork Orange" and "Das Fest" is nominated for the Kurt-Hackenberg Prize 2019.
