tjg - theater junge generation

For more than seventy years, the tjg. theater junge generation has been an important player in Dresden's cultural landscape, providing children and young people from the city and region with their first lasting and sustainable encounters with theater - together with their families or as a school class or daycare group.

With around 80,000 visitors and over 500 events per season, the tjg. is one of the largest children's and youth theaters in Europe. The main venue of the tjg. is the Kraftwerk Mitte, a former power station that was converted into a cultural center and opened in 2016. The three branches of the tjg's artistic work - drama, puppet theater and theater academy - share three fully equipped stages at Kraftwerk Mitte. In addition, the tjg. offers open-air performances at various venues throughout the city in summer.

The Puppet Theater of the City of Dresden became part of the tjg. in 1997 and celebrates its 70th birthday in 2022. Founded in 2008, the Theaterakademie is an open space for children and young people who are enthusiastic about theater and keen to experiment, a research laboratory for theater educators and a place for further training for educators.
