Throughout its history, the Volksbühne has pushed and exploded artistic boundaries in all disciplines such as acting, directing, stage, costume, video, lighting, visual arts and music. The history and aesthetics of the house are characterized by the invention of new theater practices, the use of cinematic means and a radical redefinition of artistic space. Tradition and its redesign, that's all the Volksbühne is.

Since the 2021/22 season, author and director René Pollesch and many others have taken over the house, which focuses on music, performance, film and discourse in addition to drama and dance in its ensemble and repertoire productions.
