The church building, steeped in history, is located on the central Zionskirchplatz in Berlin-Mitte, on what was once the highest hill in Berlin, surrounded by inviting green space. The decal protected brick terracotta building in the style of the neo-Romanesque impresses with its 67 meter high tower. The Zionsgemeinde feels connected to its location and its tradition and at the same time opens its doors to political and cultural, neighborhood-related and globally relevant topics. In addition to innovative forms of worship and devotion, the Zionskirche, under the motto "Open Church", is a place for a wide range of events as well as multi-faceted, critical and conscious thinking, seeing and experiencing. History of the building In 1873, the Zion Church was completed under the architect August Orth and inaugurated on the anniversary of the signing of the peace treaty with France, in the presence of the founder and in the meantime crowned emperor Wilhelm I.. After the heavy destruction during the Second World War, the church building was provisionally restored until 1953 and could be used for church services again. It was not until 1993 that the complete tower and roof renovation and the gradual restoration of the exterior facade began. In the fall of 2009, construction work began on the interior renovation, which is still ongoing. Among other things, the large stained glass windows were restored.
