Do you already have plans for the fall? If not, there's only one answer: off to the Oktoberfest in Munich! Oktoberfest is THE highlight in late summer and fall - and not just for Munich locals, but for people from all over the world. Whether you're a Wiesn pro or a newbie, here you can find out which parties and events you can attend during the Wiesn.
The Wiesn - as Munich locals affectionately call the Oktoberfest - is the largest folk festival in the world. Every year, millions of people flock to the Bavarian capital to celebrate together. The festival has been around since 1810 and is getting bigger, louder and more colorful. Beer tents, rollercoasters, a Ferris wheel and, of course, lots of Bavarian tradition await you. Whether you are in Munich for just one day or the whole event, there are a few things you should definitely not miss: ✔️ A visit to the beer tent: Of course, beer plays a major role at the Wiesn. Grab a beer (or two), sit down at a table with friends or strangers and enjoy the unique atmosphere. Typical Wiesn songs, pretzels and chicken are of course also a must. ✔️ Traditional costume: Dirndl or lederhosen are a must - well, not quite, but the atmosphere is simply much better if you come in traditional costume.
✔️ The rides: For the more adventurous, there are plenty of rollercoasters, carousels and the famous Ferris wheel. ✔️ The Oide Wiesn: If you like things a little quieter and more traditional, check out the "Oide Wiesn". Here you'll find nostalgic rides, traditional customs and lots of cosiness. Useful tips for your visit to the Wiesn: ✔️ Make a reservation: If you want a table in one of the large beer tents, it's best to book well in advance. They fill up quickly! ✔️ Getting there: It's best to leave your car at home and come by public transport. The subway will take you directly to Theresienwiese. ✔️ Get there early: Especially at the weekend, it's worth arriving early to get a place in the tents. The Wiesn is an incomparable event that you have to experience once in your life. Whether you just want to enjoy the beer, are looking for a wild party or simply want to experience Bavarian culture - everyone gets their money's worth here. So pack your lederhosen or dirndl and off you go to Munich!
