🎥 About the Rough Cut: In the mountains of rural Colombia, far from the pace of urban life and conventional ideas of success, a simple question unfolds into something profound: What does it mean to be rich? Told through the voices of children, mothers, farmers, and teachers, this documentary invites the audience into a quiet, powerful reflection. Through personal interviews, intimate moments, and stunning visuals of daily life, it opens a window into ways of living — and ways of valuing life — that may surprise, move, and challenge us. This is an invitation to listen deeply. To feel more. And to ask yourself: What makes a life truly rich?
6:30 – 7:57 PM – Feature Film: Alma del desierto / Soul of the Desert (2024)
In the arid landscapes of La Guajira, Colombia, Georgina, a transgender Wayúu woman in the third act of her life, knows that her time is running out and wants to change her existence. With nothing to lose, she sets out to meet her siblings, who don’t speak Spanish and barely survive on the fringes of the opaque Colombian bureaucratic system. Amid open wounds, memories, and unfathomable geographical and emotional distances, Georgina and her people agree that enough is enough. Alma del desierto emerges as a story of resilience, a symbol of hope, and a fervent struggle for justice. Directed by Mónica Taboada Tapia, 87-min.
8:00 – 8:30 PM – Open Discussion & Closing
After 9:00 PM – Drinks & Informal Networking
This evening is more than a film screening — it's an invitation to discuss how participatory storytelling can decolonize narratives, create agency, and engage in meaningful dialogue!
