Herzlich Willkommen zur 21. Ausgabe des Freiburger Filmforums und zum 10-jährigen Jubiläum unserer Students‘ Platform

Mit dem Film DOM von Svetlana Rodina und Laurent Stoop eröffnet das Freiburger Filmforum am 27. Mai um 19 Uhr die diesjährige Festivalwoche. DOM erzählt von russischen Oppositionellen und Aktivist*innen, die sich gezwungen sahen ihr Land zu verlassen und in Tiflis ein vorübergehendes Exil gefunden haben. Der Film ist Teil der dreiteiligen Reihe mit dem Titel UKRAINE AND RUSSIA IN A STATE OF WAR. Die beiden Filmschaffenden und die Verleiherin Corinna Dästner werden zum Filmgespräch im Kommunalen Kino sein.

Die jüngere politische Entwicklung im Sudan und ihre Folgen für die Bevölkerung spiegelt die Reihe unter dem Titel SUDAN, REMEMBER US. Der dritte thematische Schwerpunkt SHAPES OF DEFIANCE legt den Fokus auf verschiedene Formen zwischen Protest und Widerstand, die nur am Rand der Mainstream-Nachrichten Beachtung finden.

Beispiele engagierter Filmarbeit zeigt die Reihe HANDS ON FILMMAKING - A STORY OF ATELIERS VARAN. An verschiedenen Brennpunkten weltweit, und das seit vier Jahrzehnten, bildet die Pariser Initiative junge Filminteressierte an der Kamera aus. Wie zuletzt in Usbekistan. Dorthin verbinden wir uns in diesem Jahr mit einer Direktverbindung zur JUNCTION TASCHKENT und dem Filmgespräch mit dem Publikum dort.

Ein Highlight hat in diesem Jahr auch die STUDENTS‘ PLATFORM zu feiern. Aus weltweit über 500 Einreichungen konnten die 7 Jurymitglieder ihre insgesamt sieben Programme zusammenstellen.

Welcome to the 21st edition of the Freiburger Filmforum and to the 10th anniversary of the Students’ Platform

The Freiburger Filmforum will open this year’s festival week with the film DOM by Svetlana Rodina and Laurent Stoop on May 27 at 7 pm. DOM tells the story of Russian opposition members and activists who were forced to leave their country and found temporary exile in Tbilisi. The film is part of the three-part series entitled UKRAINE AND RUSSIA IN A STATE OF WAR. The two filmmakers and distributor Corinna Dästner will be at the Kommunales Kino for the film talk.

Recent political developments in Sudan and their consequences for the population are reflected in the series entitled SUDAN, REMEMBER US. The third thematic focus, SHAPES OF DEFIANCE, focuses on various forms of protest and resistance that only receive marginal attention in the mainstream news.

The series HANDS ON FILMMAKING - A STORY OF ATELIERS VARAN shows examples of committed film work. The Paris-based initiative has been training young people interested in film at various hotspots around the world for four decades. Most recently in Uzbekistan. This year, we are connecting there with a direct link to JUNCTION TASHKENT and the film discussion with the audience there.

The STUDENTS’ PLATFORM also has a highlight to celebrate this year. The 7 jury members were able to put together a total of seven programs from over 500 submissions worldwide.
