*** Golden Langur is a trio that writes their own music and combines influences
from modern jazz, Latin American music and free improvisation. The
compositions are characterized by lyrical and melancholic melodies that are
carried by a driving force of deep groove. The absence of a bass allows them to
develop new rhythmic forms and to experiment in the spirit of jazz. The band
consists of Sam Simons (Germany/Cuba) on piano and keyboards, Minori
Shimayama (Japan) on drums and Gonçalo Mortágua (Portugal) on saxophone.
Regular members of bands such as Jembaa Groove, Embryo, Hodo Gaia,
Vandalisbin and the Express Brass Band. Golden Langur are currently preparing
the first EP, which was recorded in Berlin and is being mixed by Simon Popp.
*** Julien Gasc is a discreet but influential figure on the independent music scene.
He has established himself over the decades as a singular voice of French
psychedelic rock, combining melodic elegance, surrealist poetry and sonic
experimentation. A talented multi-instrumentalist, he is best known for his solo
work, as well as for his founding and participation in the free rock far out jazz
experimental pop band Aquaserge. Gasc joined Stereolab as keyboardist and
backing vocals for their world tour in 2008-2009, continuing to work with
members Laetitia Sadier, Tim Gane, and Sean O’Hagan today. In 2013, Julien
launched his solo career with the album Cerf, biche et faon on the Born Bad
label, an intimate and dreamlike record. His next outing, the fifth disc, is on the
mixing decks, produced and recorded in Berlin with Anton Newcombe of The
Brian Jonestown Massacre. Whether writing for himself or others, he carves
out a path of his own, faithful to his artistic standards and unique sensibility.
