The fourth album by NDW post-punkers Illegale Farben from Cologne provides a dark, driving soundtrack to the big and small crises in private life and in the world.

Illegale Farben continue to prove themselves to be a band that doesn't stagnate and certainly doesn't repeat itself musically. That doesn't take the easy way out and that manages to give their music the urgency that we feel in every song. As they themselves sing in "March to Doom": "Onward, always onward / The beauty lies in failure."

Cologne-based trio Kratzen returns with their third album, Kratzen III—a milestone that feels both like a conclusion and a fresh start. Melanie Graf, Stefanie Staub, and Thomas Mersch are the architects of "Krautwave," a genre they coined to describe their unique sound: rooted in the hypnotic repetition of Krautrock and infused with the cool detachment of wave.

Produced by Olaf Opal (work with The Notwist and International Music), Kratzen III encapsulates the band’s meticulous approach to crafting music that is as structured as it is spontaneous. The album adheres to KKratzen’s distinctive rules: no drum flourishes, no solos, no storytelling lyrics, and no single band member taking center stage. Yet, within these constraints, the band finds newfound freedom and creativity, seamlessly rotating instruments and vocals to create an ever-evolving soundscape.
