Mark Ernestus’ Ndagga Rhythm Force live at Gaswerk Music Days 2025
Ndagga Rhythm Force are, hands down, one of the most explosive African acts around. The project began in 2011, when Mark Ernestus (of Basic Channel, Rhythm & Sound, and Hard Wax fame) travelled to Senegal in search of original Mbalax recordings. A spontaneous session with over 20 percussionists in Dakar led to the 2012 twin albums 800% Ndagga and Ndagga Versions, released under the name “Mark Ernestus presents Jeri-Jeri.”
Since then, the group has evolved into a fierce live outfit, touring widely and earning acclaim for their raw, hypnotic energy. Their 2016 album Yermande marked a shift to the name Ndagga Rhythm Force, solidifying their identity. Now, the long-awaited new album Khadim - a deep, expansive work echoing Ernestus’ dub heritage - is set for release in April 2025 on the Ndagga label.
Their powerful new live show will premiere in Berlin at our festival, featuring vocalist Mbene Diatta Seck, percussion legend Bada Seck, and key players from Dakar’s vibrant scene.
Ndagga is hot, hot, hot.
