Secret after 5 - an evenig tour of the exhibition "Access to Secrecy" (Stasi Records Archive )

Das sagt der/die Veranstalter:in:

For 40 years, the Stasi secured the rule of the ruling party, the SED. In its "fight against the enemy," the Ministry for State Security (Stasi) expanded ever further, in Lichtenberg and throughout the GDR. In 1990, courageous citizens not only secured the secret police's documents from destruction, they also made Mielke's headquarters a public space again. Today, the Stasi Records Archive in the Federal Archives is located here, providing information about the Stasi's activities and its records.

"A monument to surveillance": The Stasi Records Archive contains 111 kilometers of files, many of which contain personal data about individuals – collected by the State Security Service. The exhibition "Insight into the Secret" makes the significance of this archive tangible.

After the tour, you have the opportunity to visit our sample files collection. It consists of reproductions of original Stasi documents. In addition to subject files and personnel files of Stasi officers, you will also find files of those affected. They have agreed to the publication of their documents and are making a "glimpse into the secrets" possible.
