Vanishing Twin live at Gaswerk Music Days 2025
Vanishing Twin is a London-based trio crafting surreal, boundary-blurring soundscapes at the intersection of kosmische, experimental pop, minimalism, and dream-drenched psychedelia. Formed by singer and multi-instrumentalist Cathy Lucas in 2015, and now anchored by drummer Valentina Magaletti (Holy Tongue, Tomaga, Moin) and bassist Susumu Mukai (Zongamin), the group has steadily honed a hypnotic and exploratory sound world over nearly a dozen releases.
Their latest album Afternoon X marks a radical shift in approach - recorded in marathon sessions across late 2022 and early 2023, it reflects a collective method where roles dissolve and process takes precedence. The result is a lush, multi-instrumental odyssey that balances playful experimentation with structural precision, embracing both the rigour of improvisation and the warmth of songcraft. Magaletti’s cyclical percussion and Mukai’s pulsing bass remain central, forming the spine for Lucas’ shape-shifting melodies and spectral textures. Vanishing Twin continues to conjure liminal dreamspaces - music that doesn't just cross genres, but gently bends the listener’s sense of time and place.

Gaswerk Music Days (12.07. - 19.07.) is the summer music festival organized by Gaswerksiedlung Berlin and taking place in its lush gardens, BLOCK1 event space, and creative studios. The event unites experimental electronics, African sounds, jazz, noise, avant-pop, kraut, improvisation and dance music under its “Radical Live Music” flag, binding and crossing genres in a program with over 20 acts on 2 stages.
Overcoming the classic fractures among genres, our program is devoted to live music, challenging sound, improvisation and discovery. We foster those who take risks and push the boundaries, we establish grounds of exchange whilst cultivating diversity, embodying a proud alternative to a mainstream-dominated music ecosystem.
