Im Menschentrichter

In the organizer's words:

IN THE HUMAN FUNNEL

Scenes from the big city
A production of the Theater Mann & Frau

"Im Menschentrichter" is a collage that works with texts by various German poets written in the first decades of the 20th century. A time marked by the experiences of the First World War, a time of great technological progress and great social tensions, right up to the seizure of power by the fascists.

However, our play is not about history or world history, but about stories. We are interested in: how do individuals experience life, what experiences have shaped them, what do they expect?

The pub forms the framework. In it, the audience encounters various contemporaries in scenes and songs until, at the end, the fictitious distillery dissolves into a kind of "spherical space" in which sounds and words mingle, where the "after" is reported on, as the underlying text by Tucholsky is called.

The stories are cheerful, sad and poignant. There is a lot of music, live from the accordion and there is singing, e.g. "Das Lied von der Gleichgültigkeit", "Wenn eena jeborn wird" (Tucholsky), "Das Lied von der krummen Lanke" (Freddy Sieg) and also "Wenn ich mir was wünschen dürfte" by Friedrich Hollaender.

We play with people, puppets and shadows. The stage is a real playing partner, it changes surprisingly, is a pub, garden pub, altar and afterlife.
